I used to wear my relatively expensive watches (not just Rolex) when doing chores until I put a couple of scratches on them. After I did that, I just thought that was dumb of me considering I have a half a dozen other less expensive watches I could wear (if I ever need to wear a watch while doing those chores). Otherwise, I just don’t wear one.
Also when I wear a watch, I like them clean, shiny and relatively scratch free. Same with the cars I drive. I just cannot stand wearing a watch that’s all banged up even if it’s a Rolex.
I can’t stand scratches on my watches either, and I don’t have any except the light scratches that everyone gets from simply wearing a watch. Guess I’ve been really careful and fairly lucky. If I screwed up my platinum bezel with a deep scratch, I’d probably think twice about wearing my watch while cleaning the deep wheels on my car, too.

Sunday, January 10th, 2010User ‘DarkAngel’ over at the Rolex Forum at WatchUseek started a thread called ‘Your Rolex Story’. One of the members shows his Rolex Chronograph he bought in 1968. It seemed to be 20 USD cheaper than the Omega Seamaster Chronograph he was also looking at. Although the Seamaster Chronograph from that time is a great watch and kept its value after all these years, I think he did a great job choosing Rolex at the time. His Rolex Chronograph must be worth a couple of times the current value of that Seamaster Chrono he was thinking about. Check out the full thread here.
